what have we been doing so far in 2024?

A Fun and Games Night was a great success for our February meeting. From Kurling to Jenga, hangman, connect 4, dominoes, quizzes and boggle, great merriment ensued and the members were VERY competitive.
We also had a trading stall and competitions table which raised money for the Autism Unit at Chaddesley Corbett Endowed Primary School and of course home baked cakes.

Our New Year lunch at Bistrot Pierre in Kidderminster was enjoyed by lots of our members.

what did we get up to in 2022?

Our December Meeting was a fun evening celebrating Christmas with the Worcestershire Ukulele Orchestra, eating mince pies and Christmas cake washed down with mulled wine.

At the November Craft Club, we made these cute felt robins and gnomes to hang on the Christmas Tree.

Our 102nd Birthday Party at our November Meeting was a great success with a fascinating talk from the 99-year-old Betty Webb speaking on her career at Bletchley Park.  She also cut the cake and sold some of her books whilst joining us for a birthday drink and wartime cakes which were strangely rather good.  We all had to avoid the leaking roof too after tonight's torrential rain!

A group of CCWI members and friends have been visiting Chaddesley Corbett School this year teaching school pupils to knit.

Last term they knitted squares to make a blanket which was donated to the school nursery.  This term they are aiming to add to their knitting skills and making cats!  We use the pattern that you can download here and hopefully all will easily be able to complete the finished article!

At our October Craft Club we had fun making hanging Christmas Ornaments using a selection of pebbles, wood and string.  Thanks must go to Ann and Wendy for their clever ideas and guidance.

September Craft club was a jovial cookery demonstration of autumnal foods by our own Shirley Cadman. 20 members watched then enjoyed scrumptious venison crumble, pear and goats cheese salad, pork and apple cassoulet and a naughty but oh, so nice blackcurrant fool with home grown blackcurrants. A wonderful way to spend a cold dark evening.

Our visit to Envirosort at Worcester was very informative and interesting.  We learned so much about recycling and its benefits.

The pupils at Chaddesley Corbett school have been knitting squares with assistance from some of our members.  The squares helped to make the blanket picture below, which is now in the Reception classroom at the school.

Our summer outing was to Cirencester where the Civic Society took us on a guided walk, which was very worthwhile. Plenty of history, cafes and shops to enjoy.

At our June Craft Meeting members made Fabric Flowers.

On Saturday 4th June we ran a cake stall at  the Chaddesley Corbett Village Fete which they were holding as part of their Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. We raised over £100 for the autism unit at Chaddesley Endowed Primary School.

At our June Meeting we held our WI Platinum Jubilee celebration for Her Majesty the Queen at Chaddesley Corbett Village Hall.  This included a Royal Quiz, the Platinum Pudding, cakes, coronation chicken open rolls, jubilee raffle prizes, bunting, book marks and fizz to toast Her Majesty.

At our March Craft Meeting members made some lovely hanging Easter Decorations using a polystyrene egg shape as a base and scraps of material as a covering.  Thanks to Anne and Wendy for organising the evening.

At our February Craft Meeting members enjoyed knitting little chicks.  An amazing 180  have been knitted by members so far as part of the Cancer Research UK fund raising event this Easter. Each one raises a pound and we are still knitting them.....

what did we GeT up to in 2023?

At our Final Book Club Meeting of 2023 we discussed 'Keep Talking' by David Dimbleby.  It was one of the lowest scoring books of the year but we still found plenty to chat about whilst enjoying Jackie's marvellous festive treats.

At our November Craft Meeting members had fun making Gonk and Clown Christmas tree decorations.

At our September Craft Meeting members learnt how to make glass votives.  The results were lovely and the jars looked really effective when they were lit up as you can see below.

Our WI joined in with contributions to this year's Flower Festival in St Cassian's Church in Chaddesley Corbett,  including birds and butterflies made by members.

We started a new monthly activity on Monday 18th September when we held a Darts evening at The Swan in Chaddesley Corbett.  A fun evening was enjoyed by all.

Our WI annual summer trip this year was to Highgrove House gardens looking fabulously lush and green but no photos are permitted on the guided walk. A delicious lunch and plenty of plant and gift purchasing followed and a good time was had by all despite constant rain.

On a wet July evening Chaddesley Corbett WI craft group made Yarn Bowls.  These are works in progress as they take at least 4 days to dry out.

We were fortunate to have a lovely dry, sunny afternoon for our Tea Party in July.  There was a lovely range of home made food and lots of chat with friends.

A group of members from Chaddesley Corbett WI and Finstall Cross WI recently visited the Hay Festival and had their photograph taken at the NFWI stand.  The photo is in the May edition of the NFWI Newsletter. Follow the link below to see it:

At our May Craft Meeting our members tried out Glass Fusion.  You can see below the amazing pieces of art that they created before they were taken away to be fired.

At our April Craft Meeting our members made some beautiful Paper Flowers.

At our March Craft Meeting over 20 of our members had a lovely evening making Hand Tied Rag Wreaths.  These were very straightforward to do and we had wonderful results.  Some members made red, white and blue wreaths to celebrate the upcoming Coronation of King Charles, whilst others used colours to celebrate Spring. A very enjoyable evening, thank you Ruth.
